IVLA’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program provides learning enrichment, fosters critical thinking, encourages creative problem-solving skills, and facilitates cooperative learning opportunities with other gifted students.
Here is what one parent (Tami, whose daughter is 6th grader, Peyton) has to say about GATE:
I love GATE. The structure and schedule gives some balance to our ability to school anywhere. Peyton has enjoyed connecting with other students and loves having such an open connection with her instructor. Peyton hasn’t always been served well by traditional school classrooms but always thrived in her gifted studies.
GATE provides an umbrella for her entire education to be wrapped in a gifted environment. GATE provides an additional layer of socialization as well as encourages conversation and learning from a pool of students that are not all in the same neighborhood or state. The diversity, attention to communication and problem-solving she engages in, in a group setting, enhances her education in a way I couldn’t have imagined a few months ago.
This year I’ve seen her interests expand, her desire to achieve increase, not just for the A, but for the desire to actually know and share this knowing. All while connecting her learning to the world around her. Both her father and I are extremely pleased with her progress, the lessons learned in GATE and bringing a layer of fun and peace to the home that traditional school wasn’t able to do.
