Meet Ms. Frank!
What do you get when you combine a love of literature, improve comedy, and knitting? IVLA high school English teacher, Ms. Bethanie Frank! Ms. Frank was kind enough to answer a few questions.
What are your hobbies/interests?
I am a knitter and I can usually be found with knitting needles nearby. My husband runs the theatre program at the nearby college, and I adjunct for the department. That means we are involved with a lot of theatre throughout the year. We do children’s theatre and comedy improv along with our scheduled shows during the school year.
Who is someone in history you would love to have a conversation with?
Shakespeare. I know, I know…but with my theatre background and my English background, I am intrigued by all things Shakespeare. My masters thesis was over Shakespeare, so he indeed has my heart!
What do you enjoy about the discipline you teach?
When my students have to read To Kill a Mockingbird or a shorty story by Kate Chopin, I get to relive these classics and see them with new eyes. I am always reading and I love being able to introduce new authors and genres to my students.
What do you enjoy about teaching with IVLA?
The flexibility and the variety of students. I am currently working while sitting in jammies watching a cheesy Hallmark movie. Also, I love how diverse and talented my students are. I learn from them all the time. They are from all over the world and are busy doing amazing things. I consider myself lucky to be involved in their lives.
What do you hope your students take away from their IVLA experience?
I want them to have confidence in themselves that they can achieve anything they put their minds to. Sometimes working in front of a computer can be challenging, but it’s so amazing to see them work hard and succeed.
Thanks, Ms. Frank! Your students are lucky to have you!
