AP® and Honors Courses with Apex

 What are AP® Courses?

AP® courses are college-level courses that are available to IVLA’s eligible high school students. Students benefit from taking AP® courses in a number of ways. Taking AP® courses can increase student GPA because AP® courses are weighted higher on transcripts. Taking AP® courses also demonstrates to college admissions counselors that a student has college-level academic skills. Students also have the opportunity to receive college credit (without paying for it) before entering college.

Requirements for Honors and AP® Courses

Students wishing to enroll in honors courses with IVLA must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a letter of recommendation from an instructor or counselor.

Students wishing to enroll in AP® courses must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and meet all course prerequisites. Please contact an enrollment specialist for more information.

How Do I Take the AP® Exam?

Once a student completes an AP® course they are eligible to take the AP® exam. The AP® exams are administered by the College Board each May. Students must score between a 3 and a 5 to qualify for college credit(This is at the discretion of the college or university). Visit collegeboard.com for more information about AP® courses and college credit.
*Students must register separately for the AP® Exams. See below for deadlines.
**Read the AP® Credit Policy for more information on the acceptability of Advanced Placement Credits at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
***Contact the AP® Services Department or your local AP® Coordinator for more information.

Some Honors courses require outside materials. For a list of these items and where to purchase them Click Here.
