Get to know Izi: Hi, I'm Izi! I'm from Ecuador and the United States, and I really enjoy traveling. Some of my hobbies are bouldering, playing the violin, and reading! I also participate in IVLA's student government and newsletter team.

Read Izi's poem:

My whiskers tickle the early dew

My tail swishes across the grass

I mew, calling out to you

I see a soaring bluebird pass

The sky is orange, pink, and yellow

My paws knead the softest dirt

The wind plays music, like a cello

I push off with my haunches, making my muscles exert

Into the wind I fly, into the daybreak sky

Just like the bluebird, I soar

Climbing up and going high

Pouncing on a beetle, I score.

A silent rain starts falling, soaking my pelt through

I run into the safety of the trees, following after you.

Second Place Winner - Ellah S., Grade 7

Get to know Ellah: I love to paint, write, and practice karate. I love to communicate through the written and spoken word. This poem was fun for me to express my curiosity and feelings about fall. I live in North America and have been schooled at home all my life, and wouldn't have it any other way!

Read Ellah's poem:

As the time of daylight withers, the leaves fall hither and thither.

Though temperatures become cool and fair, butterflies liner and dance in the air.

In spite of crunchy leaves on the ground, I glimpse spring colors all around.

How can leaves of color profound, find themselves lifeless on the ground?

The days grow shorter, the shadows change... creating illusions... very strange.

Birds fly south, squirrels stay, each preparing for winter in their own way.

Grass blades glisten with morning dew, a cool breeze feels fresh and new.

My favorite night is Halloween, where I can be a mummy, pirate, or a queen!

As much as I love summer fun, the joy of fall has just begun.

Third Place Winner - Juliette V., Grade 6 (not pictured)

Get to know Juliette: My name is Juliette. I like to read, write, and play video games. I love to draw and go on off-road trips with my parents.

Read Juliette's poem:

Lonely moon rises

Leaves color flies away in the wind

Winter is coming
